Why does my cat sound like a pigeon?
Cat’s sound like pigeons because there is a medical condition that makes them do so. Cats with this condition let out a unique cooing noise that mimics the sound of pigeons. There are many other reasons as to why cats could sound like pigeons and we’ll discuss them here.
Why does my cat sound like a pigeon?
First, some cats make pigeon sounds because they like to mimic birds. This is a pretty common reason and it’s not bad; the cat only wants to be like its favorite animal, especially one it sees in back yards at bird feeders! If your cat sounds like a pigeon when in the garden or following birds in an outside area, this might be why.
Secondly, some cats make pigeon sounds because they are trying to imitate an owl. Owls make a cooing sound that orients around two different tones, and some cats can do this as well. Other times, your cat might have a cough or sneeze due to the same reasons people do – it has a cold!
Lastly, there is a medical condition known as infantile cries. This is where cats sound like pigeons because their body does not know how to produce a different noise; it will stay at the same pitch and tone until they grow out of it, which takes about six months per cat.
Steps to treat cat sound like a pigeon
If your cat is cooing like a pigeon, there are a few ways to stop it. First up, buy a bird feeder and put some food into it! Birds will come to eat from the feeder and your cat might not be half as interested in imitating them anymore. Next up, get an owl toy with two round balls at each end. When the cat squeezes one, it makes an owl “hoot.” This sound might be enough to stop your cat from imitating pigeons or owls!
If all else fails, you can see a vet to see if the condition infantile cries is present. The vet will give you medicine so that your cat stops making pigeon sounds, and it will grow out of this condition within a few months.
If you have a pet with infantile cries, make sure to give it a lot of comfort and love! It will grow out of this condition soon.
If your cat sounds like a pigeon, don’t be alarmed! It’s either trying to imitate a bird or has an infantile cry. The latter is not severe, but there are some treatments that can be done if you want your cat to stop making these noises.
